Rods and Reels

Tackle is one of the most important aspects of saltwater fishing. Saltwater fish can weigh anywhere from 1/2 a pound to half a ton. You need to have the right set up for the fish you are trying to catch and the location at which you are fishing. You also need to make sure your fishing outfit is in proportion to itself. You need to have the right saltwater fishing rods paired with the right saltwater fishing reels with the right line. This makes casting and catching the actual fish so much easier. Another reason for this is that at anytime you are fishing the saltwater you have a chance to bring up a record-sized fish. The rules of the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) state that any fish submitted for a record be caught on tackle that is "in reasonable proportion". See, you wouldnt want to mess that one up would you? Didnt think so.

Saltwater fishing rods fall into two main categories. There are spinning rods and baitcasting rods. Then there are multiple types of rods that fit into subcategories such as trolling, bottom and surf fishing rods. When selecting a saltwater fishing rod, you need to decide on the type of saltwater fishing reel you plan on using first. That is all based on the type of fish you plan on catching and the location you choose to fish. See, fishing isnt that easy is it? But we are here to try to steer you in the right direction.
